Harry's success with the Goon Show was legendry, counting Prince Charles among one of millions of devoted fans. This led to a career which included stage,TV, films and music. Not to mention the odd book or two! His films included Song of Norway, Doctor in Trouble and, of course, Oliver. Harry also found success on stage including the musicals Pickwick and the Four Muskateers. His
TV shows included Pepys, Pickwick, Sunday with Secombe and
Highway which he hosted for ten years from 1983. He also featured
in 11 Royal Command Performances, and was the star in no less than
three episodes of This is Your Life. His chart hits included This is my Song and If I Ruled The World. As a writer Harry wrote a number of children's books, a diet book, his autobiography books and was a regular contributor to Punch. In 1963 he was awarded the CBE and in 1981 he was knighted for services to entertainment and to charity. One
of his most unusual awards was conferred on him during a visit to
the Falklands to entertain the troops. During September 2000 recovering from a stroke and battling cancer, Harry announced his retirement. In April 2001 his body lost the battle. His spirit did not.
