A humorous
first novel which follows the exploits of a young comedian called Larry
Gower as he spends a week in a northern variety show just after the
war.

Internationally
famous, Harry Secombe (also known as Sir Harry Seagoon) Comedian,
writer and singer made many singing appearances as a tenor including
work with Welsh male voice choirs as far afield as Hong Kong.
He had film roles, his most widely known probably being as Mr Bumble
in the 1968 film version of the Lionel Bart musical Oliver! which
picked up six Oscars.
He later became a fixture of UK television as the presenter of Highway,
a long-running Christian praise programme and has published two
autobiographies - one extract details how he met the Queen and apologised
that he had lost his voice, 'It will be a pity when you get it back',
she is said to have replied.
He received his knighthood in 1981
Harry Secombe was born in a terraced house on a hillside in the
St Thomas area of Swansea. One of four children he showed an early
talent for performing (showing off!) at school.

1937
-Left Dynevor School to become a pay clerk with Baldwins in Swansea.
1939 - War. Joined 321 Gun Battery , Swansea Territorials
1942
- Operation Torch. The invasion of North Afica.
1943 - 'Anyone seen a gun? - Bombardier Spike Milligan.
'What
colour?' - Harry. The first but fleeting meeting.
1943
- Invasion of Sicily.
1944 - January 5 weeks in hospital.
Joined
concert party. Fame at last.
Started
the famous 'Shaving Act'
1945 - Joined the Central Pool of artists near Naples.
Found
Spike, Bill Hall and Johnny Mulgrew in the hut.
1946 - Back home to a new house in Uplands, Swansea.
The
old one had been bombed!
Met
Myra (wife to be) in the Mumbles Pier Dance Hall.
Audition
at the Windmill Theatre London. Passed.
Signed
on at the Labour Exchange as an actor.
October
17, started working in the Windmill Theatre.
