Bonnie
Tyler has been a world star since 1976, when she stormed the charts
Bonnie was born 'Gaynor Hopkins', on June 8th 1951 to parents Elsie & Glyn Hopkins(Glyn wasa professional boxer and miner) in Skewen on the outskirts of Swansea, Wales. She has 2 Brothers, and 3 Sisters (Bonnie being the second oldest). Gaynor attended Coedfranc Junior School and Rhydhir School, Neath, in West Glamorgan. In 1969 Bonnie entered a local talent contest singing Mary Hopkins' 'Those Were The Days' - her efforts winning second place and a crisp £1 note. She was on the way ! In
the early 1970s Gaynor took the stage name of 'Sherene Davis' and
toured the local nightspots.nAt on such venue In 1975 she was once again spotted. This time it was a talent scout for Ronnie Scott and Steve Wolfe and this led to London to record a demo track. Later that year Bonnie Tyler, as she was now known, released her first record 'My! My! Honeycomb' Her
second single "Lost In France" (recorded before her throat operation)
climbed to No.9 in the UK charts. The track was then released in
Europe and became an even bigger hit, staying in In 1976 Bonnie underwent surgery on her throat that left her with her amazing husky voice. (The female 'Rod Stewart' had arrived). Jan 1978 saw the release of 'It's a Heartache'. This single was to make Bonnie a world-wide star. It soon climbed to number 4 in the UK, number 3 in the USA, but made number 1 in many other countries around the world.
