Wales is rich in sporting activities from mainline sports like soccer and rugby to the rather more 'sophisticated' Bog Snorkling and events such as the Man verses Horse Marathon .
More than one million adults in Wales play sport on a regular basis, each one enthused by the achievements of Wales' sporting heroes such as our Grandslam winning rugby team, Ryan Giggs in soccer, Mark Williams world snooker champion and Ian Woosnam our famous golfer.
Sport is an important source of employment and is a significant contributor to the economy of Wales. Major events such as the Rugby World Cup held in Wales in 1999, brings significant economic benefits.
In 1996 survey 63 per cent of adults in Wales had taken part in some sport or physical activity during the four weeks before the interview. The most popular activities were walking (leisure walks of 2 miles or more, 45 per cent), swimming (13 per cent), keep fit or yoga (10 per cent), and cycling (7 per cent). (Source..Welshpedia)
